We survived!

Yes - we have survived the day. The arm is still broken in both bones below the elbow, but surgery is not needed - Yippee! Jase is now the proud owner of a new "red" wonder arm. I guess the strength of his cast is his super hero power. Who knows. At least he is being a trooper so far.

Track Record

It seems that Jase's track record at the big school has been set back with a bit of a handicap. We have already discussed the whole first day of school and getting on the wrong bus bit, but today he got to have his first trip to the nurses office. The day played out something like this...

Tony got a call from school @ about 11:45 saying that Jase had fallen from the monkey bars and was in the nurses office, but alright. If Tony wanted to come out that would be fine, but there was not cuts, swelling or bruises. So Tony heads out there and Jase is sitting in a chair playing with the ice pack. Once Jase catches sight of Tony - the tears start a flowing. There are no visible signs of injury - so with Mrs. Price's help, Jase heads off to get his lunch and back to the classroom.

Now it is about 3:00 and this is when the 2nd call from the school comes in. Jase is back in the nurses office and his elbow is starting to swell - oh goodie. Not only did his mom (aka -me) not leave work to tend to his every tear, now those visible signs of problems that were nowhere to be seen before are making an appearance.

Tony, Jase, Mama P and Papa R make is down to the hospital where I am waiting for them. (Side note - yes it takes 4 adults to tend to one broken school ager.) We get back to the room and the doctor, nurse and EMT come in and do their things. Yeah - we know he needs x-rays - not really a shocker. So we sit and wait for the results and I hear them from across the room as the doctor is showing the nurse the x-rays. The nurses response (Ooh...pause pause doctor talks Ooh)

Doc comes in - and yep he broke it. Not once - but twice. So Jase is currently sitting in his bed with his splint on - toughing it out like a champ. Or that could just be the Tylenol 3 that they gave him earlier. For the record - it didn't knock him out like we thought it would. He was a chatty Cathy (or higher than any kite I have ever flown).

So tomorrow will be a fun day as we try to find and get into a pediatric orthopedic specialist. Sounds like fun right! I'm curious to see in 13 years the damage that Jase's body will sustain - if after only 2 weeks we have had all this fun.

Ozark Trip

Just a few pictures from our trip to the Ozarks a few weeks ago. Meant to post them weeks ago, but with graduation and the first day of school, it seems to have slipped my mind. Nevertheless, it was a wonderful weekend.

First Day of School - Revisited

So.....

I have had a couple of requests to finish the first day of school story. In an effort not to ruin a wonderful first day of school memory, I will sum it up.

I head home to weigh in and see if I needed to get in a quick 20 to 30 minutes of exercise before the WW meeting. Most likely - I was going to skip this exercise session and meet up with Tony to get Jase. Low and behold, I round the corner and there stands Jase in front of the house crying with a couple of other kids trying to help him.

HOLD THE PHONE........In case you didn't know, Jase was to take the school bus to Miss Linda's and not HOME. So in my super freaked out mom way, I make sure he is okay. I proceed to thank the 2 kids who were there helping Jase, but I think all I really did was scare them. They disappeared and I still to this day have no idea where they live. (Thank you stranger kids - sorry to traumatize you!)

Jase and I head inside where we (Tony and I - not Jase) proceed to make phone calls - and pretty much freak out (me not Jase, he is cool). BUT - all is well. Nothing happened to Jase and he still loves the "Big" school. With this said - we can now breathe easier. I called the transportation office and cleared up a paperwork miscommunication.

ALL is good. So the below photo was actually taken on school day #2!
hmmmmm..... something seems to be missing from this picture. Oh yeah. That is right. Jase made it to the right place, but the backpack didn't. I'll take a missing backpack over a kid any day of the week.

First Day of School

Wednesday was Jase's first day at the big school! He was so excited. Our day started with Jase waking up before me and heading downstairs to eat breakfast. By the time I was up and stirring, this is what I saw.

Backpack on, dressed and watching cartoons. We finish the morning process and take the traditional first day of school photos.

Jase coming down the stairs - super excited.

Out Front

With Dad outfront

Jase felt leftout - so he took this one. Not bad for a film camera.

In the car - ready to roll.

From here we head out to the big school. All the kindergarteners are at Boone this year. Lucky for us - Boone's color is red (Jase's favorite color).

Dad and Jase walking inside.

From here it was like Jase had done this a million times. He was beaming as he walked inside. One of the teachers by the door even commented on his smile. We went into the designated meeting room, found the teachers line, said our goodbyes and took one last picture.

I'm sure that many our wondering... okay Jase did great, but what about Mom. Well, yes I did okay in front of Jase. Yes, he has been going to a daycare or preschool pretty much all his life. Yes, once we were out of the building, I was crying like a baby.

Everyone can thank Tony for this amazing photo!

Little Man - Graduation

We attended Jase's preschool graduation on Friday night and yes I will admit it up front - I got a little teary eyed. There were 6 kids graduating and Jase was excited for days before. We got to Play Pals and Jase immediately took us inside to show us "his" seat and cap. Miss Linda had chairs set up (about 20) and needless to say Jase's clan took up about about half the room.

The ceremony started and I was startled by the wonderful and amazing powers that the graduation cap had over Jase. I think at one point I even commented that if I had known he would sit that still with a cap like that one, I would have made him one years ago.

Miss Linda gave a small speech which contained some wonderful quotes about watching the little ones grow and then it was time. Since Colin was having a bit of stage fright, Jase got to go first. Miss Linda called his name and up he went and to the "stage". With each child, Linda had asked them a few questions before hand and they would now get to speak a little. So Miss Linda proceeds to ask Jase what he wants to be when he grows up - Jase's response "A Firefighter". That was classic. Not classic because being a firefighter is a noble and honorable profession. No it was classic because DAD is a police officer and that is what Jase has been telling us for the last few weeks that he wants to be. (I blame the change on the construction of the new fire station on Cherry St. Maybe this means he really wants to be an architect.) Either way we wouldn't care - it was just humorous at the moment.

The rest of the children get their turn to cross the stage and the ceremony is closed with Miss Linda reading a book to her kids for the last time. (tear tear). She read "Where do Balloons Go?" by Jamie Lee Curtis. It was a wonderful book - Jamie Lee Curtis should have started writing books years ago.

With the ceremony over and a quick snack and drink. The Jase entourage headed to the restaurant of Jase's choice - The Restaurant with the Beautiful Chairs (aka - Dos Primos).

It was a wonderful evening. I really cannot believe how fast Jase (my little baby) is growing up. Jase's first day at the big school, for summer school, is Wednesday. Man, that is going to be hard.
