It seems that Jase's track record at the big school has been set back with a bit of a handicap. We have already discussed the whole first day of school and getting on the wrong bus bit, but today he got to have his first trip to the nurses office. The day played out something like this...
Tony got a call from school @ about 11:45 saying that Jase had fallen from the monkey bars and was in the nurses office, but alright. If Tony wanted to come out that would be fine, but there was not cuts, swelling or bruises. So Tony heads out there and Jase is sitting in a chair playing with the ice pack. Once Jase catches sight of Tony - the tears start a flowing. There are no visible signs of injury - so with Mrs. Price's help, Jase heads off to get his lunch and back to the classroom.
Now it is about 3:00 and this is when the 2nd call from the school comes in. Jase is back in the nurses office and his elbow is starting to swell - oh goodie. Not only did his mom (aka -me) not leave work to tend to his every tear, now those visible signs of problems that were nowhere to be seen before are making an appearance.
Tony, Jase, Mama P and Papa R make is down to the hospital where I am waiting for them. (Side note - yes it takes 4 adults to tend to one broken school ager.) We get back to the room and the doctor, nurse and EMT come in and do their things. Yeah - we know he needs x-rays - not really a shocker. So we sit and wait for the results and I hear them from across the room as the doctor is showing the nurse the x-rays. The nurses response (Ooh...pause pause doctor talks Ooh)
Doc comes in - and yep he broke it. Not once - but twice. So Jase is currently sitting in his bed with his splint on - toughing it out like a champ. Or that could just be the Tylenol 3 that they gave him earlier. For the record - it didn't knock him out like we thought it would. He was a chatty Cathy (or higher than any kite I have ever flown).
So tomorrow will be a fun day as we try to find and get into a pediatric orthopedic specialist. Sounds like fun right! I'm curious to see in 13 years the damage that Jase's body will sustain - if after only 2 weeks we have had all this fun.
